Welcome to My Plumb Parts! We are proud to present the Spirotech range of products on our simple, easy to use online store. Why Spirotech products? Well,it is a well known fact that air in heating systems is a constant source of problems. Some of these problems are readily associated with air such as continuous venting of radiators, noisy pumps and kettling boilers. Others such as black sludge, premature component failures and efficiency losses are less obvious. The fact is that however well a system is designed and installed, when filled with water the corrosion process begins. All these problems can be completely eradicated by venting all the air from the heating system. Any plumber who has ever tried to do this using conventional methods such as Automatic Air Vents and air separators knows how difficult this is. In fact it is impossible because air is dissolved in the water with which the system is filled (Water can contain up to 15% air). Even if all the free air (air which occupied the system before being filled with water) has been vented as soon as the water is heated up the dissolved air will come out of solution in the form of microbubbles. This physical phenomenon, called Henry’s Law can be observed every day e.g. when a kettle is boiled. Therefore to eliminate all air related problems a device needs to be fitted that can effectively remove these microbubbles which are released in the boiler. Developed in Holland by Spirotech, the Spirovent®Deaerator has already proved itself in both domestic and commercial heating systems for many years. Fitted on the flow close to the boiler (hottest point) the Spirovent®has been specifically designed to trap these microbubbles, collect them in the air chamber and vent them through a high quality tamper proof automatic air vent. The air vent has been specifically designed to resist fouling and is guaranteed against leaks for 3 years. It therefore does not need a closing device which ensures that it works continuously. Water, which has been treated through a Spirovent®, becomes absorptive as it cools and acts like a sponge absorbing trapped air at the top of radiators and in pipes. As the water returns through the boiler the absorbed air is released and subsequently expelled by the Spirovent®. This is known as the Deaeration cycle and after a short period of time the entire system has become entirely free of air.

Many older systems not only suffer from air problems but also from a build up of sludge. There are several causes for dirt in heating systems e.g. sand and dirt introduced when filling, residues from pipes, joints and radiators, but the main cause as already mentioned is definitely corrosion caused by the reaction between steel, air and water. Most plumbers are aware of the black sludge that settles at the bottom of radiators. This is known as magnetite (Fe3O4) which in its advanced form becomes Hematite (6Fe2O3) and can cause pin holing of radiators. The magnetite tends to collect where there are magnetic fields e.g. in pumps and in other components such as TRV’s and motorised valves, leading to premature failure. In such systems the answer is a combined Deaerator & Dirt Separator which will eliminate not only the symptoms (dirt) but also the cause (air).
